On Friday, February 22nd, the McAuley Warriors faced the Golden City Eagles in the semi-finals of the district tournament. It was back and forth for both teams throughout the whole game. It was hard to see the boys season come to a close with the final score of 62-51. The Warriors ended their season with a record of 12-14. On Saturday, the Lady Warriors played the Lockwood Lady Tigers for the championship game. The Lady Tigers started off the game stronger than the Lady Warriors up 15-8. The Lady Warriors slipped away in the second quarter. After Coach Howard knocked some sense into his team, the girls came out fighting in the third quarter. It came out to be a nail biter at the end. The Lady Warriors managed to close Lockwood’s lead to three. After a last-minute foul and a made free throw on the Lady Tigers’ part, there wasn’t enough time to tie the game. The final score was 51-47. After the game, the All-District team was announced. Senior, Courtney Bates, junior, Taylor Schiefelbein, and freshman, Kayleigh Teeter all made the team. This year’s Lady Warriors basketball team holds the overall season record of 21-6, the best in program history. They set two school records with 15 straight wins and being the best defensive team that McAuley has seen holding opponents to just 35 points per game.
