McAuley opens their football season home at Fred G. Hughes Stadium, against the Sarcoxie Bears on Friday the 30th. This is the first game of the season for both the Bears and Warriors.
The Warriors have plenty of new faces coming in the season opener. McAuley is looking to fill the void of quarterback, Mitch Wear. The starting quarterback is expected to be a game time decision. Coach Gubera states, “Both Collin Lowry and Adam Robertson have done an excellent job of competing for this position.” Other key players the Warriors are looking to replace are: Shaw Robertson, Luke Siedl, Martin Graham, and Chase Damer.
The Bears come into the season opener after an impressive 8-3 season in which they advanced to the second round of the state playoffs. The Bears return several starters, including running back Jade Bloss, quarterback Gavin Currey, and linebacker Marcos Lopez. Much like the Warriors, Sarcoxie is looking for young players to step up and fill some holes. Sarcoxie’s Head Coach Rader states, “We don’t have much depth anywhere, so we need some young guys to earn some playing time and give us a chance to rotate some guys in.”
The Warriors are hoping to avenge last years 46-34 back and forth battle in which the warriors ultimately lost. Kickoff for Friday nights game is at 7:00 P.M. Go Warriors!
