On Saturday, August 24th, the McAuley Warriors football team hosted its annual lawn chair scrimmage. This gave fans an opportunity to come out and see first-hand what the Warriors have to offer its fans this upcoming season.
The scrimmage began with the McAuley freshmen doing a 7 vs 7 session with the St. Peters Junior High squad. Once the McAuley team took the field, the excitement began.
The Warriors kick-off return team showed potential for the big play as 2/3 kick offs were returned for touchdowns; one by Cole Lowry and the other by Simeon Dohman.
The McAuley offense followed suit as quarterback’s Collin Lowry and Adam Robertson both looked comfortable at the helm directing multiple scoring drives. Both QB’s threw the ball well downfield and connected with multiple receivers. The McAuley ground game also looked impressive led by junior running back, Andrew Castillo. The Warriors are looking for more production from its running game this year and will lean heavily on Castillo and senior running back, Anthony Bertoncino.
The McAuley defense also stood out to fans as they flew around the field making plays. On multiple occasions, the defense had multiple hats at the ball and the energy was evident.
Overall it was a good morning. The fans got a glimpse at this year’s squad and then had the opportunity to eat a pancake breakfast provided by the JACS Booster Club. The Warriors open regular season play Friday, August 30th at home vs. Sarcoxie at 7:00 pm.
