Coach Brenden Gubera returns to lead McAuley High School. There will be a new quarterback under center- there are three young men who have been working for the starting QB job all summer long. The warriors will have a young team and will work hard to improve each week. McAuley Catholic is an optimistic, hard working team that hopes to make it to the district finals and build on the 2012 winning season.
The Warriors were a young team last season and they gained valuable experience. McAuley finished with a 6-4 record which was the first winning record since 2006. When reviewing last year Coach Gubera said the student / athletes “grew as a team and we saw several players mature in their game. We were very good offensively and averaged almost 400 yards per game. It was great returning to a program that had not seen success on the field and teaching the kids how to win every day,” continued Coach. “We were feeling good about ourselves until we lost our starting quarterback Mitch Wear in week 9. Our kids battled adversity all year and not once did we have our original top 5 offensive lineman on the field at the same time.”
Coach Gubera’s take on the season: “We should have decent team speed. We have some good athletes capable of making plays with a solid nucleus returning offensively to move the football. Our mindset is to give maximum effort on each play. We have to be more consistent in every phase of the game and play fundamental, disciplined football. Fans can expect to see a team with a new identity and energy level that will play hard and fast each and every play.
